Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India is home to Anna university, a public state institution. Guindy is home to the main campus. It was first founded on September 4, 1978, and was given the name C. N. Annadurai in honor of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister.
Four renowned technical schools in the city of Madras (now Chennai) were combined to form the university:
College of Engineering (CEG) (Established in 1794)
Alagappa College of Technology (ACT) (Established in 1944)
Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) (Established in 1949)
School of Architecture & Planning (SAP) (Established in 1957)
The university is located in Chennai's southern region, 3 km from the closest train station (Guindy) and 10 km from the airport. The University's Main Campus is 189 acres and is bordered to the north by Raj Bhavan and the south by the Adyar River. The second campus of the university spans 52 acres and is home to the Madras Institute of Technology in Chrompet. In Taramani, Chennai, there is a third campus that spans more than five acres. The buildings on these campuses are diverse and cater to the different demands of the university community.
